2nd Annual Gingerbread House Decorating Workshop and Contest

It is the sweetest moment of the year and Kids English Club® & IberEnglish revive our workshop to decorate gingerbread houses once again. This Christmas tradition was brought to the US by German immigrants around the 17th century. Since then, popular contests have been held across the country, and among communities, to decorate (and then eat) these appetizing little houses!

In our workshop, each child will decorate their own little house to take home. The workshop includes the house and everything needed to create an edible masterpiece. A 100% immersion activity in English.

This year there will be two different workshops:

- Junior Workshop for 4-9 years: In this workshop each child will decorate their own mini house to take home. The workshop includes a photocall, the gingerbread house and everything you need to decorate your work of edible art, songs and storytelling. All participants will receive a participation gift.

- Senior workshop for 10-15 years: In this workshop and contest focused on STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) each participant will design, draw and finally decorate their gingerbread house to take home. Three winners will be chosen by a panel of judges. The prizes, awarded at random, include a tapas cookbook in English aimed at teens, a chef's kit, and an escape room experience in English. The workshop includes a photocall, the gingerbread house and everything needed to create an edible work of art.

Contest rules (for children ages 10-15)

  • Each contestant must fill out a form with their name, initials of their last name, name of father / mother / guardian and telephone number.
    Non-visible interior supports are allowed. Non-edible materials may be used for non-visible supports.
  • Everything visible on the house must be edible. The only exception is the base on which the house is mounted.
  • Only the materials provided may be used. Candies and/or decorations from outside the event cannot be used.

The three award categories include (for children ages 10-15):

  • General appearance / design composition
  • Originality / Imagination / Use of materials
  • Design Difficulty / Design Execution.
